O’Connell Youth Ranch uses behavior modification wherein youth learn through example what it’s like to live in a family, including all the ups and downs of family life.
Recreation is designed to address physical, mental, and emotional needs, not just to pass the time or provide entertainment. The benefits include emotional release, fitness, teamwork, building good relationships, and having fun.
While at the ranch the young men have the opportunity to care for farm animals including horses, goats, chickens, pigs and dogs. They also help with the community garden where they learn to grow and harvest their own food.
